Honda BF2.3; The World's Lightest Honda Outboard, Built for Tenders and Dinghies

View as

The Honda BF2.3 is the smallest and lightest outboard in the Honda Marine lineup, 29.5 lb in the short-shaft version (31 lb long shaft), and one of the lightest 4-stroke outboards made. It is built for inflatable tenders, small dinghies, canoes and sailing chase boats, and it delivers the quiet, clean running Honda is known for in the most portable package possible.

Unlike a 2-stroke of the same size, the BF2.3 runs on straight gasoline with no oil mixing and almost no visible exhaust. Its air-cooled 57.2 cc single-cylinder engine has no water pump or impeller to service, and it carries its own built-in 1.1 L (0.29 gal) fuel tank.

Boat Max Online is an authorized Honda Marine dealer. Every BF2.3 we sell comes with Honda's True 5 warranty (5 years, non-declining, transferable, for recreational use) and ships free to the lower 48.

  • Air-cooled 4-stroke: no water pump maintenance
  • Centrifugal clutch: the engine idles without turning the prop
  • 360-degree steering for maneuvering in tight spots
  • Built-in fuel tank, no external tank needed
  • Meets EPA and CARB emissions standards

Honda Outboards motors Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the Honda BF2.3 and BF2.3D?

The Honda BF2.3D features a dual-thrust propeller system that provides more thrust from a smaller propeller diameter; useful in very shallow water or when the standard prop cannot run fully submerged. The standard BF2.3 uses a conventional propeller. Both share the same engine and warranty.

How much does the Honda BF2.3 weigh?

The Honda BF2.3 weighs approximately 29 lbs (13.1 kg), making it one of the lightest 4-stroke outboards on the market. It can be carried in one hand and mounted by a single person easily.

Can the Honda BF2.3 push a 12-foot aluminum boat?

The BF2.3 is designed for small inflatables, tenders, and dinghies up to approximately 11-12 feet with a single light occupant. For a 12-foot aluminum fishing boat with gear and a passenger, a 4-5 HP motor is a better match.

Does the Honda BF2.3 have a fuel tank?

Yes. The BF2.3 includes a built-in 0.18-gallon (0.7L) fuel tank. At cruise speed, this provides approximately 1.5-2 hours of operation. An external fuel tank can also be connected for extended range.
