Suzuki's fuel-injected DF outboards depend on clean, water-free fuel to keep injectors and high-pressure fuel pumps working correctly, and the fuel filter (with a water-separating element on most models) is what stands between contaminated fuel and a costly EFI repair.

Suzuki's schedule: inspect the low-pressure fuel filter at the initial 20 hours and every 100 hours or 12 months, and replace it every 400 hours or 2 years. A boat-mounted water-separating filter element is replaced every 12 months. DF70A and larger have an integral engine-mounted fuel filter/water separator with a water-in-fuel alert.
