How much oil does a Suzuki outboard take? It depends on the powerhead, and the number changes when you replace the oil filter at the same time. This chart was compiled by the Boat Max Online service team from Suzuki's own maintenance and owner's manuals. It covers every current Suzuki 4-stroke from the DF2.5 to the DF350A, plus the legacy families we still sell kits for.
Suzuki's oil specification for all of these engines is SAE 10W-40 four-stroke oil rated NMMA FC-W or API SG, SH, SJ, SL or SM (5W-30 if you regularly run below 5 °C / 41 °F). Suzuki recommends its own ECSTAR V7000 10W-40 marine oil, which is what we pack in our oil change kits.

How to use this chart
- The oil only column is the amount for a drain-and-fill without touching the filter. The with new filter column adds what the new filter absorbs. Either way, add most of it, wait a minute, then check the dipstick and top up to the upper mark: the dipstick is the final word, not the chart.
- The DF9.9B, DF15A and DF20A share one crankcase and take the same 1.0 L. The 1.5 L figure you may see online for the DF20A is the DF25A/30A capacity; overfilling by half a litre can aerate the oil and push it past the seals.
- Every drain plug gets a new gasket. Suzuki's torque for the engine oil drain plug is 13 N·m (9.5 lb-ft) on most models and 10 N·m on the DF2.5 and older DF4/5/6.
- Oil filters that spin on are tightened to 14 N·m (10 lb-ft) after lightly oiling the gasket. The DF2.5 has no filter, and Suzuki's 2025 oil-data table lists none for the older DF4/5/6 either (our legacy DF4/6 kit has shipped 16510-91J00; check your serial number).
- Suzuki replaces engine oil at the first 20 hours or 1 month, then every 100 hours or 12 months. The oil filter is replaced at 20 hours, then every 200 hours or 12 months.
