Suzuki's fuel-injected DF outboards depend on clean, water-free fuel to keep injectors and the high-pressure fuel pump working correctly. A clogged or water-saturated filter shows up as hesitation, stalling at low rpm and hard starting, and in the worst case as an expensive fuel-system repair.

What Suzuki's schedule actually says

  • Engine-mounted low-pressure fuel filter: inspect at the initial 20 hours, then inspect every 100 hours or 12 months; replace every 400 hours or 2 years.
  • Boat-mounted water-separating fuel filter: Suzuki recommends installing one between the tank and the motor; replace the element every 12 months (sooner if the filter maker says so).
  • DF70A and larger carry an integral fuel filter/water separator on the engine with a water-in-fuel alert. When the alert sounds, stop and drain the separator.
  • DF25A/30A, V6 and DF300B/350A: the low-pressure fuel pump filter is replaced every 1,000 hours; DF150A–DF250 also have a high-pressure fuel filter replaced every 1,000 hours.
