Suzuki's fuel-injected DF outboards depend on clean, water-free fuel to keep injectors and high-pressure fuel pumps working correctly. A clogged or saturated fuel filter can cause hesitation, stalling at low RPM, hard starting, and in worst cases, expensive damage to the fuel injection system. Suzuki specifies replacement of the fuel filter element as part of the regular 100-hour service interval.

Genuine filters use the correct micron rating and water-separating media specified for Suzuki's EFI fuel system: finer filtration than older carbureted-engine filters required, since fuel injectors have much tighter tolerances and are far less tolerant of contamination or water in the fuel.
