ColorRite #1559 is the white base coat for Yamaha CE Pearlescent White, the tri-coat white finish used on Yamaha's white-cowl outboards. Pearlescent White is a multi-layer color: this solid white base goes down first, then the pearl color coat goes over it, then clearcoat. The base is what gives the pearl its correct depth and brightness, so skipping it will not give a factory match.

Surface Preparation

  1. Wash the area with soap and water and rinse thoroughly.
  2. Clean with wax and grease remover and a lint-free cloth, wiping in one direction.
  3. Sand the repair area with 400–600 grit until smooth and the gloss is removed.
  4. Remove sanding dust and clean again with wax and grease remover.
  5. Prime any bare metal or plastic before applying the base.

Tri-Coat Application

1. Test Panel

Spray a full test panel (base, pearl and clear) and compare it to your engine in direct sunlight. The number of pearl coats changes the final shade, so the test panel tells you how many to use.

2. Apply the #1559 Base Coat
  • Apply light, even coats until the area is a uniform solid white.
  • Allow 5–10 minutes between coats.
  • Let dry before applying the pearl coat. Do not sand the base.
3. Apply the Pearl Coat

Apply the CE Pearlescent White pearl coat over the base in light coats, matching the number of coats from your test panel.

4. Apply Clearcoat

Apply two even coats of clearcoat for gloss and protection. After about 5 days of curing the area can be polished.

Pearl coat, primer and clearcoat are sold separately.
