Restore the factory finish on your white Yamaha outboard with ColorRite #5549, the factory-matched pearl coat for Yamaha paint code CE / 00CE Pearlescent White. This is the color used on Yamaha's white-cowl outboards.

Pearlescent White is a tri-coat finish. The #1559 white base goes down first, this #5549 pearl coat goes over it, then clearcoat seals it. This pearl coat will not match without the #1559 base underneath.

Surface Preparation

  1. Wash the area with soap and water and rinse thoroughly.
  2. Clean with wax and grease remover and a lint-free cloth, wiping in one direction.
  3. Sand the repair area with 400–600 grit until smooth and the gloss is removed.
  4. Remove sanding dust and clean again with wax and grease remover.
  5. Prime any bare metal or plastic first.

Tri-Coat Application

1. Test Panel

Spray a full test panel (base, pearl and clear) and compare it to your engine in direct sunlight. The number of pearl coats changes the final shade, so the test panel tells you how many to use.

2. Apply the #1559 Base

Apply light, even coats until the area is a uniform solid white. Let dry. Do not sand the base.

3. Apply the #5549 Pearl Coat
  • Apply light, even coats over the dry base.
  • Allow 5–10 minutes between coats.
  • Use the same number of coats as your test panel.
  • Let dry 30–60 minutes before clearcoat.
4. Apply Clearcoat

Apply two even coats of clearcoat for gloss and protection. After about 5 days of curing, the area can be wet sanded, polished and waxed.
