Keep your Yamaha outboard looking like new with the Yamaha Outboard Paint Touch Up Pen in Dark Bluish Gray #1. This ColorRite factory-matched paint (Yamaha code 008D / DBN1) is ideal for repairing small chips, scratches and scuffs. The pen tip gives you precise control on small repairs, and helps protect bare spots from corrosion and further damage. For the best finish and durability, a clearcoat is recommended after touch-up.

Application Instructions

1. Perform a Test

Test the color on a small hidden area to confirm the match.

2. Mask the Repair Area

Mask the surrounding area with tape. Tip: lightly fold the tape edge so the paint blends without a hard line.

3. Prepare the Surface

Clean the damaged area with wax and grease remover to remove grease, wax, fingerprints, mold release and dirt. Let it dry completely.

4. Sand the Repair Area
  • 600 or 1000 grit to remove gloss and prep the surface
  • 1500 or 2000 grit (wet) to remove fine imperfections
5. Prime Bare Spots

If the chip goes down to bare metal or plastic, apply primer first and let it dry. Lightly sand with 1000–1500 grit if needed.

6. Apply Color
  • Apply light, even coats with the pen
  • Allow proper drying between coats
  • Do not sand between color coats
7. Apply Clearcoat

Once the color is dry, apply clearcoat to restore gloss and protect the repair. Do not sand between color and clearcoat.

8. Final Finish

After 5 days of curing, polish the area with a fine cut compound and a soft cloth using light circular motions.

Primer and clearcoat pens are sold separately.
