The Suzuki DF4A is a 4 HP portable built on the same 138 cc single-cylinder 4-stroke as the DF5A and DF6A, with a built-in 1.0 L fuel tank and manual start. At 55 lb (short shaft) it is a one-person carry, and it has enough thrust for inflatable tenders, small aluminum boats and dinghies.

It is carbureted, so Suzuki's schedule adds a carburetor inspection at the 20-hour service and every 100 hours after that, on top of the usual engine oil (0.7 L SAE 10W-40), oil filter 16510-16H11, gear oil and NGK CPR6EA-9 plug. Full-throttle range is 4,000–5,000 rpm.
