How Long Is the Suzuki Outboard Warranty?

  • Suzuki DF outboards carry a 5-year limited warranty for pleasure use, or 1 year for commercial or rental use.
  • Your warranty period starts the day the motor is delivered or first put into service — not the build date.
  • If you buy a used Suzuki with time left on its warranty, that coverage transfers to you automatically, as long as the registration is updated with Suzuki Marine USA within 30 days of the sale.

What the Suzuki Limited Warranty Covers

The standard Suzuki limited warranty covers defects in materials and factory workmanship. In plain terms: if a covered component fails because of how it was made, an authorized Suzuki dealer repairs it at no cost to you for parts or labor.

The Suzuki Emission Control System (ECS) Limited Warranty

Separate from the standard limited warranty, every Suzuki outboard also carries an Emission Control System (ECS) Limited Warranty. Suzuki Marine USA warrants that your outboard was designed and built to meet all EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) regulations, and that its emission-related components are free from material and workmanship defects.

Emission warranty period: Coverage begins when the motor is delivered to the customer or placed into dealer service — whichever comes first — and continues for 5 years or 175 engine hours (whichever comes first) for non-evaporative components. Evaporative emission coverage begins when the motor is first put into service.

Covered emission-related parts (when supplied as original equipment) include:

  • Fuel system: carburetor internals, fuel injector assembly, vapor separator, pressure regulator, fuel pump and delivery pipes
  • Ignition system: cap and wires, magneto, CDI unit, Engine Control Unit (ECU), ignition coils, pulser coil
  • Air induction: silencer assembly
  • Evaporative components: original external and under-cowl fuel lines, primer bulb, fuel tank and cap
  • Miscellaneous: breather, emission-related hoses, clamps, and sealing gaskets

Find genuine Suzuki maintenance parts and service kits and fuel, ignition, and rigging parts for all of these.

What Is Not Covered

These conditions are excluded from both the standard and emission warranties:

  • Any outboard not imported or originally distributed by Suzuki
  • Damage from alteration or modification
  • Spark plug fouling from improper use
  • Damage from improper lubricant selection (low-quality, non-marine, or shop lubricants)
  • Non-Suzuki replacement parts, or failure of Suzuki parts caused by using improper parts
  • Diagnosis and inspection charges that do not result in warranty-eligible work
  • Corrosion damage from improper use, storage, or maintenance
  • Consequential damages (loss of time, the expense of returning the motor for repair, inconvenience)

A quick note on lubricants: using the correct marine engine oil isn't just good practice — using the wrong oil can void coverage on a related failure. Always run a marine-grade oil that meets Suzuki's specifications.

Your Warranty Responsibilities as an Owner

  • Operate and maintain the motor normally, as described in your Owner's Manual.
  • Perform all required maintenance based on your operating use — and keep the records, bills, and invoices that prove it was done and where.
  • Pass service records to the next owner if you sell the motor.
  • Bring the motor to an authorized Suzuki dealer for any warranty repair.

Stay ahead of maintenance with Suzuki marine engine maintenance kits and parts and the right oil and fuel treatment products.

How to Get Suzuki Warranty Service

To get warranty service, bring your outboard to your nearest authorized Suzuki dealer with proof of the motor's purchase date. The dealer will complete the necessary repairs within a reasonable time and give you a copy of the work performed. Note that any parts replaced under warranty become the property of Suzuki.

Replacement of emission control devices may be performed by any repair shop or mechanic, but warranty repairs must be done by an authorized Suzuki dealer. Using parts that aren't genuine Suzuki — or aren't equivalent in performance — can impair the effectiveness of the emission control system and may not be covered.

Important Limitations

  • Suzuki makes no warranties beyond those stated in the limited warranty.
  • Any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose is limited to the duration of this written warranty.
  • Suzuki does not authorize any person to create any other warranty, obligation, or liability in connection with the outboard motor.
