Professional Surface Preparation for Outboard Paint Repairs

The 1K Light Grey Outboard Paint Spray Primer is designed to properly prepare surfaces before applying color coats on outboard motors and marine equipment. This professional-grade primer improves paint adhesion while helping create a smooth, uniform base for the final color coat.

Using primer is essential when repairing scratches, chips, or areas where bare metal, plastic, or fiberglass is exposed. It ensures the paint bonds correctly to the surface and helps prevent peeling, uneven coverage, or premature paint failure.

The aerosol spray format allows for easy application and even coverage across small repair areas or larger refinishing projects.

  2. Clean the surface using a wax and grease remover to remove contaminants such as oil, grease, or wax.
  3. Allow the surface to dry completely.
  4. Sand the repair area using 400–600 grit sandpaper until the surface is smooth and the existing gloss has been removed.
  5. Remove sanding dust using compressed air or a clean cloth.
  6. Wipe the surface again using wax and grease remover before applying primer.
  7. Primer Application Instructions
  8. Shake the aerosol can thoroughly before use.
  9. Spray a light, even coat over the repair area while holding the can approximately 6–10 inches from the surface.
  10. Allow 5–10 minutes drying time between coats.
  11. Apply additional light coats if needed for full coverage.
  12. Once primer is fully dry, lightly sand with 1000–1500 grit sandpaper if necessary to smooth imperfections.
  13. The surface is then ready for the final color coat and clearcoat application.
