Surface Preparation

  1. Proper surface preparation is critical for achieving a professional finish.
  2. Wash the area to be painted using soap and water. Rinse thoroughly.
  3. Clean the surface using a wax and grease remover with a clean lint-free cloth. Wipe in one direction only.
  4. Rinse with water and allow the surface to dry completely.
  5. Sand the repair area using 400–600 grit sandpaper until the surface is smooth and the gloss from the existing paint is removed.
  6. Remove sanding dust by blowing or wiping the area clean.
  7. Clean the area again using wax and grease remover.
  8. If the repair area exposes bare metal or plastic, apply primer before painting according to primer instructions.

Aerosol Painting Instructions

1. Perform a Test Panel

Always spray a test panel before beginning your repair. This allows you to verify:

  • color accuracy
  • coverage
  • dry time

Compare the test panel in direct sunlight to ensure a proper color match before proceeding.

2. Apply Base Color
  • Apply light, even coats of paint.
  • Apply the first wet coat evenly across the repair area.
  • Allow 5–10 minutes of drying time.
  • Apply a second coat in the same manner.
  • Inspect coverage and apply additional coats if necessary.
  • Allow the paint to dry for 30–60 minutes before applying clearcoat.
3. Apply Clearcoat
  • Once the color coat has dried:
  • Apply one even coat of clearcoat to the painted area.
  • Allow 5–10 minutes drying time.
  • Apply a second wet coat for proper gloss and protection.
Follow clearcoat instructions for best results.
Important Application Tips
  1. Always perform a test spray panel before painting.
  2. Do not sand between color coats or before applying clearcoat.
  3. ColorRite paints are designed for plastic, metal, and fiberglass surfaces.
  4. No flex additive is required.
  5. After the paint has cured for approximately 5 days, the surface can be: wet sanded, polished, waxed, buffed

If the finish appears dull after clearcoat dries, polishing compound can be used to restore gloss.
